Machine safety, from assessment to validation

We reduce risk to an acceptable level with CFSAE-certified engineering, designs validated with SISTEMA (IFA) and SICK devices.

Certification

Certified machine safety experts

Our engineering staff is certified as CFSAE (Certified Functional Safety Application Expert, SGS-TÜV Saar), with design and engineering validated with the SISTEMA (IFA) software following the technical guidelines of SICK, our Vision Partner.

Safety remediation with guards and doors

Principles

Risk control hierarchy

The goal is not to eliminate all risk, but to reduce it to a tolerable level, in this order:

1

Inherently safe design

Remove the hazard through machine design: limit force and speed, eliminate sharp edges.

2

Technical protective measures

Functional safety: electronic, mechanical or optical devices that act when a person approaches a hazard zone.

3

Information and warnings

Signs, visual and audible alarms and manuals for the risks that could not be removed technically.

How we work

From analysis to the final report

  1. 01

    Risk assessment

Systematic analysis and evaluation of the hazards of each machine or line according to ISO 12100.

  2. 02

    Safety concept

Definition of guards, safety functions (SF) and work zones based on the risk report.

  3. 03

    Machine remediation

Design, manufacturing and installation of guards, doors, light curtains, scanners and safety panels.

  4. 04

    Verification and validation

V&V plan, testing of each safety function and final report with photos and documentation.

Standards

International ISO / IEC standards

Type A

General principles

  • ISO 12100: risk assessment and risk reduction, our methodological basis

Type B

Safety aspects and devices

  • ISO 13849-1: Performance Level of safety-related control parts
  • ISO 13855: distances based on approach speed
  • ISO 13857: safety distances for upper and lower limbs
  • IEC 61496: electro-sensitive protective equipment (light curtains and scanners)
  • ISO 14119 / ISO 14120: interlocks and guards

Type C

Specific machines

  • ISO 10218 for robotic cells
  • Specific EN standards for presses, palletizers and other machines

Applications

Devices we integrate

Safety light curtains

Optical barriers with muting logic to tell a passing pallet from an operator entering the area.

Safety laser scanners

Protection of areas and variable perimeters around robotic cells and AGVs.

Interlocks and locking devices

Safety switches and locks that keep guards closed during a hazardous movement.

Safety controllers and relays

Fail-safe hardware that processes redundant signals and performs a safe stop, independent of the line PLC.
